Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of characters who will separate from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are rare.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might appear out of place, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The traitor then settled his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could assist the party access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Questers and Schemers tables.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which players will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
